Robert Irvine’s Sweet Potato Bread Pudding

Robert Irvine is a TV personality on the Food Network. He owns a restaurant on Hilton Head Island, SC and was featured in a recent publication promoting the area. Even though he has been in the restaurant industry for over 25 years, he chose Hilton Head Island for his first restaurant location. His first restaurant, Eat is located in Wexford Center on the Island. He has recently opened another restaurant, Nosh, in the Tanger Outlet Center in Bluffton.

The following recipe for sweet potato bread pudding was featured in the magazine article and incorporates a low country tradition for sure, sweet potatoes.  It does seem to be a very rich dessert because of the generous amount of condensed milk in the recipe.

My husband and I have visited Hilton Head Island for over 30 years and our biggest dilemma seems to be whether to eat at a familiar place or try a new restaurant.  We usually divide our time between the two choices and are never disappointed.  We ran out of time before we were able to visit Robert Irvine’s restaurant.

  1. This sounds so good…who doesn’t like something made with a sweet potato. I think this is something I could make! I enjoy seeing the pictures from your trip.

  2. Our family vacations frequently at HHI and we paid a visit to Eat! in August. The food was delectable from the She-Crab soup, Fried Green Tomatoes, to all 4 entrees we tried and of course the Sweet Potato Bread Pudding with Tabasco ice cream. They give out the recipe as you leave. It is to die for! I promise! Next time you visit – you need to stop in and try out the menu. It was one of the best places on the island with exceptional service to boot!

    • Thanks for your comment PPreston. We vacation at HHI often and our dilemma is always whether to eat at a new place or one of the tried and true places of previous visits. We will definitely add Robert’s Eat restaurant on our “must try the next time we are there” list.
