Our Visit to Chateau Morrisette

On Saturday, we took a road trip to Floyd, Virginia.  I love the beautiful mountain countryside in that area of Virginia.  We visited the Chateau Morrisette Winery and had lunch at their restaurant with some great friends that we had invited to travel with us.

The day was beautiful and sunny and as it has rained every day for a couple of weeks, the sunshine was extra special.

The restaurant was excellent and we had a very relaxing lunch that was delicious.

The barbecue was with blackberries in the sauce and it gave the barbecue a wonderful flavor that was very different from the tomato based barbecue sauce I am so familiar with.  I enjoyed everything about my lunch.  The cole slaw had grated carrots in it that made it crunchy.  The cornbread muffins were cooked to perfection and the hopping john was good but very different from the spicy version I have eaten before.

My husband had reservations about choosing shrimp and grits in the mountains of Virginia; however, he was very happy with his choice.  The grits were extra creamy and the dish was very colorful.

This area of Virginia seems so peaceful and is just the perfect setting for a winery.

I enjoyed the beautiful gardens and flowers that were around the restaurant and winery.

This winery is unique as the vines are at a different location and this is the entrance to the wine sales, wine tastings and tours. Did we buy any wine?  Yes, we bought some blackberry wine and I think that will inspire me to make a blackberry wine cake that is so popular here in the South.

Of course we stopped at our favorite candy shop, Nancy’s in Meadows of the Dan, Virginia after leaving the winery.  What else could a girl ask for?  Sunshine, Good Friends, Good Food, Wine and Chocolate.  It was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.
